Prolotherapy Injections for Injuries

After injuring a ligament, it only recovers about 70% of its original length & strength.  Prolotherapy can help regain the length and strength of a ligament after injury.

Prolotherapy involves the local injection of a glucose solution into stretched, weak and damaged ligaments or tendons.  The glucose acts to induce local inflammation (one of the 1st phases of healing), with the subsequent phases of healing resulting in the strengthening and tightening of the ligament or tendon.

This results in improved joint stability, allowing muscles to relax and ultimately help with pain and dysfunction.

Ankle sprains are a very common & problematic injury

example, with an often whole body effect.

A common problem from an ankle sprain is weakness of the gluteus medius muscle, which reduces the ability to stabilise the pelvis and body on the leg (often resulting in hip pain / bursitis, pelvic & lower back pain, or knee problems).

Another common problem is Upper cervical - C1/2 vertebrae (neck) instability from whiplash, neck / shoulder injuries, sports, stretched ligaments from suboptimal posture etc.

This can lead to distrupting the function of the Vagus nerve, which can be involved in a long list of symptoms, including dysfunction to all the organs it serves.

Other typical symptoms that can benefit from prolotherapy are joints that crack, click or crunch, along with scars that can affect muscle function. A common example can be lower back pain and a lack of lower abdominal tone after a c-section birth.  The scar can shut down abdominal muscle function, which reduces abdominal tone and support to the lower back.
